Gadget of the Week: Watermelon Slicer!

Like most kitchen stores, we carry a TON of gadgets.
At times it feels like maybe, just maybe, we might have too many different gadgets.  Many of these tools can be very specific, but many of them can be also be really useful.

Earlier this year one of my vendors presented me the Watermelon Slicer. I can be a bit of gadget cynic, so I didn’t things we needed this particular item.  Then we started getting (many) requests.  I ordered it and since have happily reordered.
Watermelon may be at the top of the list of the most annoying things to slice up.  Its size and shape make getting the melon cut up and off the rind pretty challenging, and this tool makes it simple to slice and serve.  Just look:

If you want to cut the melon into smaller cubes, the sides of the “tongs” also cut right through so you can easily get small and consistent cuts of watermelon.  I love this tool and found it really easy and fun to use.

If you’re lukewarm on watermelon, you may not need this.  It’s a bit on the larger side (we are dealing with watermelon) and so might find storing it a little burdensome if you use it really infrequently.  However, if you’re the type of person who likes to squeeze every last drop out of watermelon season*, this is a worthy tool, and is fun to use!

*I can feel my wife rolling eyes at how corny that was…sorry I couldn’t help myself...
