New Meal Monday: Oreo Truffles

Last week I wrote about my love of baking, but that’s not to say that I also don’t love a good no-bake treat either. The recipe below is for Oreo Truffles, an easy, no-bake, chocolatey treat that I look forward to each holiday season. It calls for very few ingredients and you end up with a product that looks and tastes like it was a lot harder to make that it actually was! I have historically steered clear of desserts that involve dipping in chocolate, as I would inevitably end up with chocolate all over myself and whatever I was dipping looked like a lumpy mess. After much practice (and picking up a few tips from friends and other blogs), I can finally make a product I am proud
to share. I find it easier to melt the chocolate in two smaller batches so I am dealing with less chocolate at a time. Toothpicks are my dipping tool of choice, although you could also use a fork. I fill a spoon with chocolate and then dip/roll each ball in the spoon instead of the large bowl, which helps lessen to risk of having to fish the truffle out of the bowl of chocolate! I dip about 4 or 5 truffles in a row, and then top them with sprinkles and crushed candy
canes. This allows me to move quickly and top each truffle before the chocolate starts to harden. The toppings are a great way to make the truffles festive, and a convenient way to cover up any imperfections from the dipping process. So happy dipping, and beware – these truffles are dangerously delicious and addictive!

Here is what you’ll need:

  • 1 package Oreo cookies
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 8 oz baker chocolate
  • Optional toppings: holiday sprinkles, crushed candy cane, white chocolate chips

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Crush Oreo cookies – I find it most efficient to do this in a food processor.
  2. Add cream cheese to crushed cookies and mix together (I use my hands to mix).
  3. Chill mixture for 2 hours.
  4. Roll mixture into 1 inch balls.
  5. Melt chocolate in microwave or in a double boiler.
  6. Dip balls in chocolate so they are complete covered, place on cookie sheet lined with parchment or wax paper. Optional: Sprinkle with candy canes, sprinkles or drizzle with melted white chocolate for some holiday bedazzle.
