KissTheCook.net

Description: KissTheCook.net is built with the .NET framework along with Microsoft Access 2000. The site is hosted on Microsoft Server 2003. This site was conceived and constructed to integrate with Kiss The Cook's existing database system. This database system conforms to 3NF standards - this helps with the maintenance and efficiency. The database implementation includes Point of Sale, Inventory tracking, Purchasing, Gift Registries, Special Orders, Customer tracking, Request lists, Barcode labelling, and other back office reporting functions. Although Access is "lighter weight" than SQLServer, over a quarter million sale transactions have been logged and the Products table alone consists of over 8000 items. Performance has never been an issue ... even during the busiest times of year.

Implementation Notes: The site is being built by the Apple Mountain software division (currently Mike, Margaret, Tina and many of our staff members who have suggested great content!). The .Net framework was chosen for its easy of integration with the existing database.  The site is built with 3-tier architecture - the data tier using the existing database and adding stored procedures (although where output parameters are required, direct SQL is coded), the business tier using the C# language, code behind practices and user controls, and finally, the presentation tier with ASP.NET forms. The site currently has selected suppliers and product lists, and active registries. Future features will include search functions, customer logins, and e-commerce. The e-commerce is scheduled to be implemented as a web service. This way, I can hopefully use it with www.AppleMountain.net. Mike can be contacted at soulia@aol.com.
